Get a Mentor (It Can Save You Years)

One of the biggest accelerators in life is finding somebody who has already walked the path you want to walk.

It sounds obvious when you think about it.

If you wanted to:

  • learn a language
  • improve at golf
  • play the piano
  • get fit
  • ski properly

…you’d probably expect some form of guidance, coaching, or instruction along the way.

Yet when it comes to building a business, changing careers, or creating income online, a lot of people still try to figure everything out alone.

And that usually slows things down massively.

Why Mentorship Matters More Than Ever in 2026

We live in a strange time.

There’s more information available than ever before…
…but also more confusion.

You can spend months:

  • watching videos
  • consuming content
  • researching endlessly
  • jumping between strategies

…and still feel stuck.

That’s why mentorship matters.

Not because a mentor magically solves everything for you.

But because they:

  • shorten the learning curve
  • help you avoid obvious mistakes
  • keep you focused on what actually matters
  • and often help you believe something is possible before you fully believe it yourself

That last point is bigger than most people realise.

I Learned This the Hard Way

Looking back, I probably wasted a lot of time trying to overthink things myself.

Like many people, I wanted certainty before taking action.

I wanted to:

  • understand everything first
  • avoid mistakes
  • make the “perfect” decision

But eventually I realised something important:

Most progress comes through guidance, action, and adjustment, not endless isolation and analysis.

The people who move forward fastest are rarely the people who know the most.

They’re usually the people willing to:

  • learn from others
  • ask questions
  • and follow proven frameworks long enough to gain momentum

A Good Mentor Doesn’t Need to Be Perfect

One mistake people make is thinking they need to find some flawless “guru”.

You don’t.

You simply need somebody:

  • ahead of you in the area you want to grow in
  • with real experience
  • and with values and a lifestyle that genuinely resonate with you

That’s important.

Because success means different things to different people.

For some, it’s money.

For others, it’s:

  • freedom
  • flexibility
  • meaningful work
  • more time with family
  • or simply more control over life

Find people whose results and way of living actually align with what you want.

Be Careful Who You Take Advice From

This is something a lot of people discover too late.

Well-meaning friends and family often give advice based on:

  • fear
  • caution
  • or their own limitations

Not because they want you to fail.

Usually the opposite.

They just want to protect you.

But if somebody has never:

  • built a business
  • created online income
  • taken a similar path

…they may not be the best person to guide you through it.

Sometimes the safest advice also keeps people the most stuck.

Mentorship Is a Two-Way Relationship

The best mentoring relationships are not about “taking”.

Good mentors generally enjoy:

  • seeing people grow
  • sharing experience
  • helping others avoid mistakes

And as you progress, it’s important to:

  • show appreciation
  • update them on progress
  • apply what they teach
  • and eventually help others too

That’s how real communities and networks are built.

You Don’t Need to Figure Everything Out Alone

One of the biggest mindset shifts for me was realising:

You are allowed to learn from people who have already done what you want to do.

You do not need to reinvent every wheel yourself.

In fact, trying to do that is often what keeps people stuck for years.

Whether you want to:

  • build an online income stream
  • create more freedom
  • develop new skills
  • or simply create more options for your future

…guidance makes the journey faster, calmer, and far less overwhelming.

Don’t Be A Lone Wolf

The lone wolf approach sounds admirable…

…but in reality, progress usually happens faster through:

  • support
  • mentorship
  • accountability
  • and the right environment

Nobody achieves anything significant entirely alone.

Honestly, life becomes a lot more enjoyable when you stop trying to.
